About the Temple
Nestled within the rugged, densely forested Nallamala hills, the Srisailam temple is an extraordinary bastion of ancient Shaivite heritage. It holds the rare distinction of housing both a Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva (Mallikarjuna) and a Shakti Peetha of Goddess Bhramaramba within the same sacred complex. Mentioned extensively in the Skanda Purana, the temple flourished under the Satavahanas, Ikshvakus, and reached its zenith under the Vijayanagara kings, who added magnificent fortifications and mandapas showcasing exquisite medieval stone artistry.
