About the Temple
Situated on the banks of the Penna River, this 16th-century temple was built during the peak of the Vijayanagara Empire by Penugonda chiefs. The temple is famous for its unfinished yet breathtaking sculptures, intricate stone-carved chariot wheels, and an underground water spring (Bugga) near the Shiva Linga that keeps the sanctum constantly moistened. Its river-facing mandapam stands as an artistic masterpiece of medieval engineering.
